Shibari Intro - August in English

Intensive introductory Shibari workshop for a mixed-gender group, Saturday, August 22, from 16:00. to 21:30 with a 30-minute break, in English.

Start learning Shibari in Barcelona through an efficient and dynamic curriculum with Scarlatana, a professional instructor, while joining a growing community where you can share, experiment, and build new relationships with others who share your interests.

The entire workshop program was designed for both individual and partner practice, and it will take you less than a full day to get started with the fundamentals of Shibari:

• History of Shibari, its context, and evolution.

•Disciplinary ethics, risk profile, and negotiation process.

•Fundamental knots, friction techniques, and bindings.

• Methods for mitigating risks and physical injuries, safety precautions, and anatomy.

• Practical exercises to develop fluidity with the ropes.

• Understanding the equipment and how to care for it.

• Access to study materials and online review resources.

• Discounts and consultations on complementary Shibari practices.

This program is a mix between Pauline Massimo's usual program and Scarlatana's own program and has been continuously updated to adapt not only to new findings but also to revised and modernized methods. We offer students a curriculum in which these complex techniques are approached through an accessible, understandable, and non-dogmatic teaching method, while respecting the Japanese cultural roots of this art.

The rules for the venue and the event are explained at the beginning; participants must arrive 5–10 minutes early to avoid delays in the workshop, and no one will be admitted after 16:15. Please read the terms and conditions before booking.

Requirements:

Please wear comfortable clothing; there are restrooms and lockers on-site for changing.

Bring natural jute or hemp rope, measuring 7–8 meters long and 5–6 millimeters thick.

Safety scissors.

Ineligibility:

Participants who do not have a sufficient understanding of English, as we do not offer simultaneous translation or assistance in other languages. We recommend attending a separate workshop conducted exclusively in Spanish or taking private lessons in Catalan, French, and/or Spanish.

The use of ropes made of materials other than those specified in the requirements, including synthetic ropes, cotton, bamboo, sisal, or other materials, as well as ropes of non-standard thicknesses and sizes. If you do not have your own materials, you can purchase them in advance by selecting the “materials” option below, which includes two treated natural jute ropes and a safety scissor. We also sell materials on the day of the workshop. Alternatively, you can borrow shared materials to practice with during the workshop.

Where:

The workshop takes place at a venue 5 minutes from the Horta metro station or 7 minutes from the Vilapicina metro station.

Participants are solely responsible for checking the address and directions to avoid unforeseen issues that could cause delays. Please check for any location changes up to 24 hours before the event; check your inbox in case we contact you regarding any emergencies.

All our events can be reserved exclusively online through our website. Since events fill up quickly, we recommend that you reserve your spot as soon as possible to guarantee your place.

Our change, cancellation, and refund policy is strict. We only offer refunds if the event is rescheduled and you are unable to attend the new date, or if the event is canceled by the organizers.

You may transfer your reservation to another person up to 12 hours before the event starts, and this must be arranged exclusively via email with the organizers.

Important:

We closed our own venue in November 2024 and no longer host events at the old address. We currently partner with various well-equipped venues in Barcelona, and cancellations by the venue may occur. Therefore, if there is a change in location, we may notify you no later than 12 hours before the event begins, and this change will be posted exclusively on the webpage where we send the access link in the confirmation email. We do not send emails or announce the change through other channels; should a change occur, we are not responsible if participants have not checked for updates within this potential change window.

If this workshop does not fit your needs and schedule, you can inquire via email about private lessons; private lessons are more expensive and availability is limited.
