Sobre del evento

Workshop by Pauline Massimo (no pronouns / they).

Topic: Introduction up-lines (for suspensions, partials and ground).

About the class.

In this workshop by Pauline Massimo you will learn in a practical and theoretical way how to understand and work with vertical lines, specifically the ones we use to suspend, to make partial suspensions and to play on the floor. The main reason it is referred to as up-lines and not suspension lines is because this very popular element can go beyond creating dynamic and complex suspensions in the air, thus increasing risk exponentially with a lack of experience and proper education, rather, the use of vertical lines in Shibari can be complemented and applied at different levels without the need to have the complete suspension as a goal.

Either because you are starting out and want to play with the vertical axis of a line while the body completely on the ground, or because you are creating partial suspensions or because you already have enough experience tying and want to start creating full suspensions, this class covers many aspects that go beyond how to make these lines as safely as possible, but will also touch on issues related to how to identify safer suspension points, how to work with different materials (rings, carabiners, bamboos, etc.), as well as the anatomy safety , gravity, etc.

This class is for all levels that are above the Introduction to Shibari that we offer, meaning, there are minimum requirements.

In this class you will learn.

• Review of the different types of vertical lines and their functionalities.

• Safety keys and how to avoid accidents while dealing with vertical lines.

• Review of rope models anatomy in partial suspensions, and in suspensions in general.

• Practical exercises to work vertical lines more efficiently and fluidly.

• Demo of different types of anchor up-lines and different types of improvisations to finish the up-line lefover.

Duration.

The class will last approximately three hours.

What you need.

Your questions, at least 3-4 ropes for the exercises, if you have more ropes and you have a more advanced level you can bring them, safety scissors, comfortable clothes.

If you don't have ropes, you can use the community ropes of the space or buy your own at Espacio Nos.

Requirement.

The minimum requirement to attend this workshop is to have attended an Introduction to Shibari course or workshop at Espacio Nos, or have a minimum demonstrable experience equivalent to our Intro to Shibari course. Know all the basic ties like single column tie and double column tie very well in different parts of the body, know how to do the single column tie with the bowline knot and square knot.

It is recommended to have attended our friction study workshop as well as knowing how to tie harnesses. If you consider yourself an intermediate or advanced level person, you must demonstrate your abilities as a rigger, model or self-tying person.

If you self-tie, you should practice single and double columns as much as possible in different parts of the body.

Tied people must have minimum experience being tied, as well as know how to communicate, to the person who ties them, and identify about the differences of blood circulation and nerve compression in case it occurs, know and understand a minimum about their body and what things can go better or worse.

Both roles must have a good understanding of anatomy and the risks involved in doing Shibari, circulation and nerve compression. Couples should have a minimum of experience tying together before attending this class, as well as knowing how to negotiate and communicate needs and consent.

When and where.

Saturday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Espacio Nos.
